HELP!
I know, I've been bad at posting since we brought Gabey home. He's dealing with colic and gas problems, so we've had some rough days this last month. He had his 1 month appointment on Monday, and this little chubster has gained 3 pounds in 3 weeks! At least he's eating well! We got a prescription for Zantac for him, which will hopefully help with his upset tummy. Now, I need some advice from moms who've dealt with this before. Baby Gabe has pretty bad baby acne that started about a week ago. It's gotten worse these last few days, and I don't know what to do. I'm actually not sure if there's anything I can do, but there HAS to be a mom out there who knows how to at least lessen the severity of the acne. I know it doesn't hurt him, but when he gets angry or impatient, he has a bad habit of clawing at his face... and with all the acne, he's made himself bleed a couple times (no worries... they're tiny little scratches). I try to keep his nails filed down so he can't scratch himself, but he still finds a way to scratch his face. I feel so bad because there's not much I can do to help his colic, and the anti-gas drops don't help his poor tummy. BUT, if there are any of you who have any pointers as to what I can do to help with the baby acne, do tell! I'll do anything at this point! Muchas gracias:)

They say to leave the baby acne alone, or you'll make it worse. My suugestion: socks. Put socks or baby mittens on his little claws. That should help that he can't scratch, therefore, it should help the acne a little bit.
My babies scratch too. Mason, I think, is a baby cutter. It is my opinion that he does it for attention. Oh, the cunning mind of a 10-week old.
Hey Triest, I live across the street from Bruce & Teresa. :) My son, Tyler, had a bit of acne too. The best thing to do is just leave it alone. Don't put lotions or anything on him. Try and keep his nails short or use mittens. Acne isn't fun, but sometimes it'll clear up quickly. Sometimes it will last a bit longer, but no worries. It WILL go away. :)
On the colic/gas issue (even though you didn't really ask, so feel free to ignore me - lol), if you're still nursing, have you tried to cut certain items out of your diet? (i.e. dairy) Sometimes it's really more of an intolerance to something Mama is eating. Just a thought.
Good luck! :)

Don't worry, the acne goes away in a few weeks and he'll be as perfect as ever- have I said yet that I think your baby is one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen. Seriously- I'm sure you think so, but as an outsider- he is SERIOUSLY gorgeous!
Anyways, just put little socks on his hands to stop the clawing. Also, Lily was horribly collicky for 6 months! It was so tough! At one point, we had to put her in the swing and put the vacuum on full blast right beside her so she would get to sleep. (I don't recommend that) try having him rest more on his tummy and rub his tummy for a while after he eats. Distract him with a bath or baby massage with lotion.
The best thing you can do is make sure you get a break. Give Ross a bottle of pumped milk and get out of the house for a few hours, or sleep! You really need to take care of yourself as well- and don't feel guilty. Walks are good, too! Love ya, girl!
dido on the baby mittens, brax has a scar on his nose from when he was 4 days old. and on the gas problems your diet, my mother-in-law has that problems when she is breastfeeding, try cutting out tomatoes, chocolate, dairy.
And on the acne they say leave it alone, but i used a warm wash cloth, water only on braxton and on the big ones I used a tiny dot of my clean and clear zit cream. They were gone in a day or two.
Good Luck!
Jocelyn had both of these baby problems!! They can be so hard to deal with especially on your first when you are just trying to figure out how to make it through the day on a couple hours sleep or how to feed a baby every 3 hours and still remember to eat something yourself! Just know that these are all normal and they do go away... whew.
The acne can look so bad, I hated taking pics of jocelyn cause I thought it was horrible but it was gone in a few weeks. I had a friend that used dandruff shampoo on her baby's cheeks and said it worked, but that made me nervous so I never tried it. Colic is the worst!! My little brothers used to tell me to leave my parents house because she cried so much. It was super hard. Sleep when you can during the day and get a break once a day, even if only for 30 minutes. Good luck!
Hi Tri, Taylor wasn't necessarily colicky, he was just really unhappy. But before I figured that out I put a heating pad on my chest on low, a towel on top of that and then laid his chest on the towel. It seemed to help him. Do you know how to push his knees up into his stomach to help relieve the gas? Also, it really could be something you are eating, check with a lactation consultant at your hospital. Bon chance!
Like most everyone else said..leave the zits alone. it will be over soon. Good luck with the colic and gas. Not a good combo.
Hey Triest! I'm so sorry you have a sad baby. Jaxon was a little colicky and he threw up after almost EVERY meal. As soon as I stopped eating chocolate, onions and cabbage he stopped, instantly! Babies livers can't break down those things until they are 2 so it can make them really sick. Also, I would get in the tub with Jaxon and that seemed to give him some comfort. The only other thing that helped was some medicine called "Little Tummies". You can get it at Walgreens or Walmart, it's worth a try!
As for the acne it will go away, they say not to even put mild soap on a baby's face so I wouldn't put anything on it. I just washed my boys faces a few times a day with warm water and that seemed to help.
Good luck!
Okay so here is my advice... I know that most everyone has told you to just leave the baby acne alone and it will go away, which is true, but if you want to help it go away faster here is what you do... go buy some Hydrocortisone 1% Cream. Apply a very very small amount on the most affected areas and then add some Eucerin Lotion on top of it to kind of help dilute the Cortisone Cream. Does that make sense? Grayer had some acne too and I asked my Dad about it and this is what he told me to do. I think it helped! Call me if you have any questions!! See you soon!
Just to reiterate baby acne does go away. But I know that when Lucy had her baby acne I was so embarressed for her! I knew she was SO cute but her skin was looking a little rough (it was, of course, at the same time when she went bald on the top of her head! so there you go) Luckily you have a cute baby so don't worry! It will only last a couple weeks.
